Japanese Art History Through the Lens of Takashi Murakami
December 10 - March 8, 2025
Gagosian Gallery in Grosvenor Hill, London, proudly presents Japanese Art History à la Takashi Murakami, an exhibition showcasing new paintings by the renowned artist. Murakami reimagines iconic historical Japanese artworks, which reflect on the decline of traditional elegance and the growing influence of Western aesthetics following the Edo period. His Four Symbols series connects Kyoto’s mythical guardians to modern landmarks: the Black Tortoise to Mount Funaoka, the Blue Dragon to the Kamo River, the Vermillion Bird to Ogura Pond, and the White Tiger to the San’indo Highway. Murakami’s innovative creative process blends sketches, AI-generated imagery, and references from his previous works.
