Brasil! Brasil! The Birth of Modernism at the Royal Academy
January 28 - April 21, 2025
The Royal Academy has curated an exhibition showcasing 130 works by 10 Brazilian artists, highlighting their significant influence on the international art scene. Spanning from 1910 to 1970, this period marked the emergence of a new wave of modern art in Brazil, shaped by the country’s diverse cultures, identities, and landscapes. The exhibition features lesser-known works by key figures such as Anita Malfatti, a pioneer of Brazilian Modernism, and Tarsila do Amaral, a leading female artist of the movement, alongside pieces by self-taught artists Alfredo Volpi and Djanira da Motta e Silva.
