Edvard Munch: A Portraiture Collection at the National Portrait Gallery
March 13 - June 15, 2025
Edvard Munch, one of the leading artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, created deeply personal portraits of his family, friends, lovers, and a distinctive series of self-portraits over his 50-year career. Widely recognised for his iconic 1893 painting The Scream, which has become a symbol of Western culture, Munch’s work is celebrated for its vivid brushstrokes and striking colour. Edvard Munch: Portraits at the National Portrait Gallery will be the first UK exhibition to explore how he transformed the portrait genre.
